At least, in my experience as a half middle eastern woman in the US. I was made to identify as white on all types of applications for schools, scholarships, etc even though I didn't get the benefit of being unquestionably white. I'm clearly not 100% white, have distinguishable middle eastern features, and faced discrimination for my heritage.
